Seven confirmed dead in an accident along Mbarara–Bushenyi Highway in Sheema District

Seven have been confirmed dead while two others sustained serious injuries following a devastating today’s morning road crash in Sheema District.

The accident occurred at around 6:30am today along the busy Mbarara–Bushenyi Highway at Rusharara in Kabwohe, sending shockwaves through the Greater Bushenyi region. The crash involved a black Toyota Fielder, registration number UA 702DL, which was travelling from Bushenyi towards Mbarara.

Preliminary information indicates that the victims were returning home after attending overnight prayers at St. Rose Catholic Church when tragedy struck.

Namatah Lule an eye witness say the impact was severe, leaving seven dead at the scene, while two others were critically injured. The injured were rushed to ICOBI Hospital for urgent medical care.

The Sheema District Police Commander, Kasule Consilata, confirmed the incident, attributing the crash to over speeding. She added that investigations are ongoing and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the driver, who reportedly fled the scene after the accident.
