Museveni Urges Leaders to Drive Socio-Economic Transformation at Cabinet Retreat

BFM-Radio News Updates
President Yoweri Museveni has called on government leaders to intensify efforts aimed at transforming Uganda's economy by moving households from subsistence production into the money economy.

Speaking during the opening of the Cabinet Induction Retreat at Kyankwanzi on Monday, Museveni emphasized that the historical mission of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and post-independence African leadership is socio-economic transformation.

The President noted that Uganda cannot achieve sustainable development while many citizens remain trapped in subsistence farming and low-productivity activities. He stressed that leaders must guide communities towards wealth creation through commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services, and information and communication technology (ICT).
"Our mission is to move every household into the money economy through commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services and ICT," Museveni said.

He further urged leaders to promote value addition, productivity, and prosperity, arguing that these are essential for improving household incomes and national development.
According to the President, the success of leadership should be measured by its ability to build a strong middle class and a skilled working class capable of driving economic growth.
"We must build a middle class and a skilled working class. That is the benchmark by which leadership should be judged," he said.

The Cabinet Induction Retreat brings together government leaders to discuss national priorities and strategies for accelerating Uganda's socio-economic transformation agenda.
