Besigye and Lutale fail to appear in court today

Olukya 11/6/2026

The High Court Criminal Division has ordered prison authorities to produce opposition politician Dr. Kizza Besigye and his co-accused Hajji Obeid Lutale before court on June 30th, 2026, without fail.

The directive was issued by Justice Emmanuel Baguma after the two accused persons failed to appear in court today for the scheduled hearing of their treason case.

Justice Baguma adjourned the proceedings and issued a production warrant requiring prison authorities to ensure the duo is presented before court on the next hearing date.

During the proceedings, Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hiire Emmanuel told court that Besigye and Lutale had not been brought to court due to unresolved issues between the defence lawyers and the court.

Captain Denish Oola Oyaa, the third accused person in the case, was present and represented by his lawyer, Captain Simon Nsubuga.

Defence lawyers led by Martha Karua and Erias Lukwago, who are part of the defence team, maintained that the hearing could not continue in the absence of the accused persons. The case is expected to commence on June 30th, 2026.
